Ron always complained that he hated Blues, which was understandable given the dearth of Blooze bands that infested the clubs. J.J. turned him onto Lightnin' Hopkins, Howlin' Wolf and Charles Brown insisting this was REAL Blues and the stuff Ron hated was bar bands who played the form, but not the music.
One day Ron stopped over at J.J.'s apartment unannounced (friends used to do that back then) just as J.J. popped a Freddie King disc into the CD player. Ron was understandably knocked out and the guy who hated Blues and wouldn't play covers suddenly wanted to record GOIN' DOWN. Unfortunately it came out "white boy Blues" but it does show the impact Freddie King continues to have. A little bit of Texas Blues made its way north.
