The Reverend Double J: Music

Second Time Around

(J.J. Vicars)

Very loosely based on a true story, names changed to protect the guilty. Had to finish the lyrics on a deadline long after the backing tracks were done. It's all Jeremy Gloff's fault, another headlong dive into the Pop music of my youth. The guitar that doubles the vocal in spots was inspired by Vanity 6's HE'S SO DULL. In dissecting the Pop music of the era I noticed that chord changes were usually a variation of I-IV-V and the melodies were often reminiscent of late 50's/early 60's ballads. On top of that was a keyboard playing a Sus chord on the first beat of the measure and another keyboard playing a single-note riff in the background. So that's what I did.

Saw you on the TV when I was just a kid
Dug the things you said and the things you did
Wanted to know you but it wasn't possible
Still I thought about you, you were so adorable

Never thought about nothin', took it as it came
Took it for granted things would always be the same
Lived for the moment, took it on the chin
Push it past the limits and never give in

Years go by and everything keeps on changing
Time goes by and nothing stays the same
Everything falling out of control
Nothing will ever be the same

Many years gone by and we're all grown up
Looks like we made it, who would have thought
I just turned around and here you are again
Going back and forth like two old friends
