The Reverend Double J: Music

Wang Dang Doodle

(J.J. Vicars)
December 29, 2007
Words and music by Willie Dixon, arr. J.J. Vicars
When you're doing a standard Blues number you gotta make it YOUR version or else you're just mimicing somebody else. This *John Lee Hooker on speed* arrangement evolved over the course of a couple months last year and made its debut in September. The stop time riff is in the same bag with DOWN ON MY LUCK (SCI-FI DINER) and WILD MAN (THE HILLBILLY RESISTANCE). This demo is a slightly shorter version. The extras that were omitted work in front of an audience but not as an audio recording. Bassist Marck Schwarz recorded these demos with his MP3 player, unfortunately the room was so small the low-end boomed uncontrolably. Despite that slight headache the guys are in top form and the arrangement is there in all its glory.

Recorded August 2007 with Mark Schwarz on bass and Masaki Ito on drums.
Tell Alligator Slim
Tell razor totin' Jim
Tell butcher knife totin' Annie
Tell fast talkin' Frannie
We gonna pitch a ball down to the union hall
We gonna pitch a wang dang doodle all night long

Tell pistol packin' Pete
Everybody gonna meet
Tonight we need no rest
We really gonna throw a mess
When the fish scent fill the air
There'll be snuff juice everywhere
We gonna pitch a wang dang doodle all night long

We gonna break out all the windows
Gonna kick down all the doors
We gonna jump and shout 'til daylight
Throw sawdust on the floor
Tonight we need no rest
We really gonna throw a mess
We gonna pitch a wang dang doodle all night long
